Community Development

All KaiRo's operations throughout Africa have committed themselves to assisting, where possible, to the upliftment of their local communities.

In Tanzania, KaiRo International supports a youth development centre and has been the driving force in acquiring a 16-acre farm on the outskirts of the city to assist in the self-sustainment of the centre.

The Tukolene Youth Development Centre, close to the city centre of Dar es Salaam provides a safe and quiet haven for children from extremely difficult circumstances and unquestionably gives the young people who attend the centre a sense of self-worth. Many children who were at risk of becoming street children have attended non-formal classes at the Centre and were then enrolled into formal public schools.

Vocational Skills

Annually, 40 young girls from impoverished families, under the guidance of VETA qualified personnel, attend sewing classes at the centre. These girls leave the centre equipped with sewing and entrepreneurial skills thus rescuing themselves from a possible life of prostitution.

Football is a firm favourite and Tukolene is proud of the 95 players who have achieved youth league level. By joining the Tukolene Football Club these children gained access to education and vocational skills such as carpentry and tailoring. Both of which were previously out of their reach. Football changed their lives.

As a result of KaiRo International's support some of the core members have been extensively trained in the fight against HIV/AIDS. These young people have in turn reached more than 2,000 young Tanzanians getting the message across via seminars, meetings and forums.

KaiRo International has been instrumental in assisting the core members of Tukolene Youth Development Centre to initialise what will ultimately be a sustainable fish farm. With KaiRo's support and the partnership of Concern Worldwide, a natural spring on the farm provides clean piped water to a rural community previously without potable water. Additionally, the company sponsors children to attend a local school, St. Jude Primary, based in Arusha - this is ongoing on a year to year basis.

KaiRo International sponsors the New Horizon Special School in Accra with needy and necessary items to assist in the development and training of under privileged and disabled local children.

KaiRo International has been responsible for the funding of the construction of a school block at St. Kizito Secondary School in Blantyre.
